We work in partnership with the communities in close proximity to our sites and invest in initiatives that can have a profound impact on people’s lives.

Our community investment strategy supports the UN Sustainable Development Goal 7 of Affordable and Clean Energy. We also support our colleagues’ charitable activities with match-funding donations to causes close to their hearts.

Sembcorp UK Community Investment 2023

Supporting communities with sustainable solutions

We began our partnership with Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice in Normanby, Middlesbrough, in 2022 to help them reduce their energy use and costs, as well as their carbon footprint. To support these aims, between 2022-23 we donated over £58,000 to fund the installation of energy efficient lighting and rooftop solar panels.

In December 2023 we supported Daisy Chain autism and neurodiversity charity in Stockton-on-Tees with over £43,000 to fund the installation of rooftop solar panels to help them reduce their energy use and costs.

Education

We view having a strong talent pipeline as essential to a community’s journey in sustainable energy. To encourage the next generation to take up careers in the energy industry, we sponsored the development of Redcar & Cleveland College’s Clean Energy Education Hub. We also harnessed our team’s expertise to help the college design, develop and implement new courses and related materials on renewable technologies.

Health, safety, security, and the environment

Managing our health, safety, security, and environmental responsibilities is our top priority because we view it as fundamental to our responsibility towards our employees and the communities we operate in. We are committed to continuously enhancing our health, safety, environment, and quality performance and managing any risks associated with our activities, products, and services.

Preserving wildlife in all the areas we operate is also of great importance to us. This includes areas around our 40+ electricity generating sites throughout England and Wales, and at Wilton International, where we are members of the Industry Nature Conservation Association.
