We are the pioneer of commercial water reclamation from treated municipal and industrial wastewater effluent in Singapore. We transform commercial wastewater into high-purity water for power and steam generation, as well as for municipal and other industrial uses.

We were awarded the 25-year NEWater agreement with PUB, the national water agency, to design, build, own and operate Singapore's largest NEWater plant at Changi and supply PUB with 50 million gallons of NEWater a day (or mgd) from 2010.

Sembcorp NEWater Plant, Changi

  • 228,000 cubic metres per day
  • Technology: Microfiltration (MF), Reverse Osmosis (RO), and Ultraviolet (UV) Disinfection
  • Largest NEWater plant in Singapore and one of the world’s largest reclaimed water plants
  • Winner of “Water Reuse Project of the Year” at Global Water Intelligence’s 2010 Global Water Awards

“Plant on Plant” – Integrated with PUB’s Changi Water Reclamation Plant

Our Sembcorp NEWater Plant is one of the few large-scale water recycling plants in the world to be housed on top of a water reclamation plant. PUB’s Changi Water Reclamation plant collects and treats used water from the eastern half of Singapore. The treated water is then channelled to the Sembcorp NEWater Plant on its rooftop to be further purified into NEWater.

12% of Singapore’s current water needs are met by Sembcorp NEWater Plant

As one of the Four National Taps, NEWater is a key pillar of Singapore’s water sustainability. With a capacity of 50 million imperial gallons, our Sembcorp NEWater Plant produces enough NEWater to meet 12% of Singapore’s total water demand.

Technology capabilities

The Sembcorp NEWater Plant uses the same established and proven NEWater technology pioneered by PUB – microfiltration and reverse osmosis. This plant’s state-of-the-art microfiltration and reverse osmosis systems are also designed for optimum energy consumption.
