Singapore's largest ground-mounted solar project

October 27, 2025

Jurong Island is a vital engine of Singapore’s economy—home to leading global energy and chemical companies and contributing significantly to the nation’s industrial output. As Singapore advances its low-carbon ambitions, Jurong Island is also emerging as a key front in the clean energy transition. Sembcorp is supporting this shift by deploying solar energy at scale through the Sembcorp Jurong Island Solar Farm.

Spanning 60 hectares across six plots of interim vacant land, this project is the largest ground-mounted solar installation in Singapore to date, with a total installed capacity of 118 megawatt-peak (MWp). It generates enough energy to power over 33,200 four-room HDB flats annually and helps offset more than 60,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.

To maximise efficiency and adapt to site conditions, the project features several design enhancements - such as inverters mounted directly beneath the panels to improve cooling, and anti-corrosion coatings on screw piles to withstand the coastal environment. Containerised electrical facilities were also used to streamline deployment and allow for future relocation if required.

At the height of construction, up to 500 workers were active across the six sites. Thanks to strong coordination and a safety-first approach, the entire project was completed within eight months incident-free.

The Sembcorp Jurong Island Solar Farm makes efficient use of vacant land to contribute to Singapore’s solar goals, supporting efforts to expand renewable energy capacity and strengthen grid resilience.
