Micron’s Solar Carport: Weaving Sustainability Into Existing Spaces

Singapore is the base for Micron’s global operations and its largest manufacturing footprint, with three fabrication facilities, a test and assembly facility, and a technology centre supporting innovation across the semiconductor company.
As part of Micron’s aspiration to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in its operations and its purchased energy by 2050 globally, Sembcorp has completed multiple rooftop solar installations across their various sites in Singapore and inked an 18-year Power Purchase Agreement with Micron.
Notably, Micron’s solar carport project at its North Coast facility is an innovative solution that harnesses the renewable power of 36,000 solar panels on the rooftops of its fabrication plants and carport shelter tops. Completed in June 2024, these solar canopies are a modern and energy-efficient take on traditional carports and serve a dual purpose of not just providing shade for parking but also generating electricity that is enough to power 6,000 four-room households a year.

The 2MWp solar carport project was carried out in phases over 2 years, to allow for the continued partial usage of the carpark lots, providing a smooth operational transition and ensuring minimal inconvenience to the Micron staff and visitors alike.
Micron's carport at Woodlands
This is the second solar carport site at Micron Singapore’s premises, with the first being located at their Woodlands facility. Through their rooftop solar installations and solar PV integrated carports, Micron is expected to avoid more than 10,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions, equivalent to taking more than 2,200 cars off the road for a year.
"Micron is committed to improving our environmental footprint and enabling these opportunities with our partners. We are glad to collaborate with Sembcorp on our solar panels installation which helps build a more sustainable future."
Ms Cheng Yueh Ching
