Sembcorp’s journey in Indonesia began in the early 1990s with the development of Batamindo Industrial Park in Batam and Bintan Industrial Estate in Bintan—two pioneering projects that laid the groundwork for modern industrialisation in the Riau Islands.

In 2016, Sembcorp expanded its footprint to Central Java with the launch of Kendal Industrial Park, which has since become a key investment destination and Special Economic Zone. Today, Sembcorp is shaping the future of industry with the Tembesi Innovation District in Batam, a next-generation hub focused on advanced manufacturing, digital innovation, and sustainable development.

To support Indonesia's national strategic thrusts, the Indonesian government has entrusted Sembcorp with developing Kendal Industrial Park (KIP) – the largest industrial township development of its kind in Central Java. It is also the first industrial development on Java Island to be designated a special economic zone (SEZ) with accompanying government-provided investment incentives for manufacturing tenants. In 2023, KIP was named the top SEZ and the Best New Industrial Area in Indonesia.

Featuring themed industrial clusters, including Fashion City, Food City, Furniture Hub and Building Materials zone, each cluster targets companies in various stages of the industry value chain. Additionally, KIP is fostering new clusters in medical equipment and pharmaceutical manufacturing, as well as electric vehicle, renewables and battery supply chains.

KIP also offers ready-built factories with modular designs for quick start-up. The factories can be installed with rooftop solar photovoltaic solutions to generate clean energy and help tenants lower their carbon footprint.

Tembesi Innovation District is a modern industrial real estate development located in Batam, Indonesia — just 45 minutes from Singapore. Strategically positioned within the Singapore+1 ecosystem, the park offers ready-built factories, built-to-suit facilities, and multi-purpose workshops tailored for manufacturing and export-oriented businesses.

Spanning approximately 100 hectares, the district is designed with stable utilities and sustainability in mind. Future plans include green energy integration from an adjacent floating solar farm, rooftop solar installations, and digital decarbonisation solutions. The site also features a privately-owned energy grid and wastewater recycling systems to support efficient and responsible operations. Its data centre-ready infrastructure supports efficient, responsible, and digitally enabled operations.
